Season's greetings! I'm an exceptionally tall doctoral student originally from Fife and now resident in the lovely NewCASTLE. I'm miffed I didn't discover this site earlier: it'll probably relieve my friends and family of my naff, dad-joke sense of humour. Unluckily for you lot, the beast will now be unleashed here. I'm a pun addict and verbal artistry impresses me.
Interests: Athletics, running, baking, the Andes, learning stuff.

After having had a rotten day, this caption cheered me up no end
Thank you whoever you are!

I fully agree: if someone notices that your caption is just a paraphrasing of one of theirs then they are likely to assume that not only do you steal their ideas, but other captioneers' ones too. A resultant lack of respect from doing this can only be expected and it will affect the way that people vote towards you in the future.
If it's not original then don't use it.

Don't Copy ![]()
I see the one now! Perhaps I didn't see it originally because it hadn't got any votes and it was on the first page of captions...
You can't monopolise the usage of one word in a caption, it strikes me as arrogant and unreasonable. As someone who has fallen victim to caption copying (and also having been the person who was most targeted by tactical voting before it became monitored) I agree that captions should be original and captioneers behave fairly. Nevertheless, I'd never pick up on someone else for using the same word just because they got votes and I didn't. Life's too short, the site's supposed to be fun!

I have yet to view the caption you mentioned, as I have a job, friends and hobbies. I find grammatical errors just as abhorrent as spelling mistakes and I suggest that you spend the next few hours trying to revise how your comment could be improved. I never spend more than a minute on a caption. I ask myself how long it must have taken you to assimilate captions left months apart?

'The pretty lady'? But I didn't contribu... Oh, I see...

Who cares?
There is nothing new under the sun and you can only use so many of the words in the english language before you, sadly, start to use them... *dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuuh*... again.
Are we being paid? Is it going in your CV? Will it be on your headstone?
We're all fine with the latter... "Died of stress from Caption Competition"...
As the pretty lady said, life's too short. Peace 'n' love. x

Sorry Sarah, not just one word. I used the words 'I have rung for help' and you used the words 'he rung for some help'. Too similar for me and I would not have entered my caption if you had posted first. Anyway, I think we better agree to disagree before we bore the others to death. As far as being the person most targeted in the tactical voting, not even close in my opinion. An interesting exchange.

The caption I'm talking about was posted on Tuesday of this week at two minutes past eleven in the morning. I don't know where the gap of months is supposed to be unless you thought 11.02 was the eleventh of February. If you only spend up to a minute on a caption why don't you spend another minute and check what has been posted previously to eliminate any chance of duplication.

Too similar to Tues 11.02am. This is getting to be a common problem on site and quite often the second version gets a vote (even with a spelling mistake in this case).
