They are the exact words in full, I just thought as its such a well known faux pas that it worked o.k. in part. What do you think?
Ahghh! Always second guessing myself these days.

I think it's great. It deserves more votes IMO but maybe it's an age thing.

We've got an "African" themed fancy dress at work next week, and in our team meeting when I mentioned "Um Bongo" I got a lot of blank looks, and some of our team are older than I am!

By the way, suggestions are welcome.

I cant help thinking that an African themed fancy dress party is a cheap excuse for not laying on a buffet. wink

Lol You couldn't write this stuff: One of our team said "Africans like fish, we could have a fuddle" (I'd never heard the phrase until a few months ago. I think it's an alliteration of "food-huddle", meaning 'everyone brings some food in'). So they think we'll bring in some FISH, and leave it on our desks for people to help themselves to? With our air-conditioning? Are they mad???

I'd quite happily engage a couple of our team in "discussing Uganda", but I don't think they'd see the funny side.

I recall a scene in 'Spaced' where Simon Pegg is quoting the Kia Ora advert to the thug who wrongly thinks he has drugs to sell.
Paul, I feel your pain, I fear that any fluctuation from authentic African culture will result in a back lash. One side of me screams an ostrich suit, Bernie Clifton style, and the tiny, sensible part says Egyptian. Job done!
Can I come and we can do the Um Bongo up and down the corridors in our ostrich suits. lol

Please do! There may be only me and you laughing, on our way to JobCentre Plus, but what a memory!

If I may join the conversation ... my friend from S. Africa often has a braai - an African BBQ - & there's always lots of meat espcecially weird spicy stuff eg spicy sausages. Google braai & you're bound to get ideas.

Paul, what a fantasic idyll that is.
Chris, I like the recipe ideas, Biltong, which is a bit like beef jerky and Bunny Chow is good. Its a loaf of bread hollowed out with curry in the middle. Yum.You can come too Chris. Lets have the party here. lol
