I'm the author of the first AA caption at 8:01 and I'm not happy about this. Admittedly the delivery of the punchline is better than mine, but to me it's a blatant copy. Surely the dupe detector would of flagged this up, and if so the captioneer carried on regardless. I also pointed out the dupe yesterday morning when it only had two votes, but since then 14 other people have voted for it. Am I alone in thinking this is wrong? I'd like to hear what fellow captioneers think. Ta
I've noticed a lot of captioneers advise you when they think of better wording, so you have the option of changing it. Not sure how this slipped the dupe detector, but I do agree it is a better punchline than yours. I think there was a forum on this not so long ago, whether it is acceptable. What about all those who have Jack Daniels in their caption. The dupe detector must of picked them up, but you have to say what is in the picture and the witty one wins. I've voted for the second one, so will also do the same for yours. Good luck.
I don't agree it's a better punchline. The punchline is the same, it's the delivery which is better. It's inevitable that the word Jack would be used lots, but there's so many permutations for the word. At the end of the day, I suppose it boils down to that some people's morals and sense of fair play are different to others.
Sorry Mark, but there is no need to have a go at me. I didn't write it! All i'm saying that if the other captioneer had a better version than yours they usually message you to change yours to their suggestion.
I queried why the dupe detector didn't work for me once & was told there is a short delay (think it was 10 seconds?). I guess if you submit a caption too quickly it doesn't have time to flag it up. I agree the 2nd one is better delivery, but voted for both when I realised a similar one was first. I think captioneers don't intend to copy, just a case of great minds think alike - be happy your caption made me smile :)
